Why in Poland ?

Poland's position on the international arena is growing still stronger. Our country is the European Union and NATO member. To take advantage of this improving position Poland acknowledges the need to host a prominent, prestigious event on a global scale. Organisation of EXPO is on the one side an honour and elevates the prestige of the State and on the other side it is a confirmation of its credibility as an economic partner with immense potential. EXPO provides a development impulse and an instrument for encouraging long-term activities. Poland devotes its utmost attention to this message.

Poland is the only European country applying for organisation of EXPO 2012 and the first one among the former eastern block. EXPO is an occasion to invite guests from all over the world to Poland. This will create a unique opportunity to promote our country as the one taking up the challenges and responsibility in the scope of global affairs. Utilising favourable development conditions, as a result of the social and economic system transformation in 1989, we provide for a dynamic development of business, financial institutions, consulting companies and entrepreneurs' associations, offering market incentives to attract foreign investors.

The subject of the exposition refers to leisure, culture and entrepreneurship. This scope will make the exhibition extremely attractive for visitors. The guests from all over the world will have an occasion to see not only the exhibition but also the most beautiful spots in Wrocław and the entire Poland.

Why in Wrocław?

Wrocław has been one of the oldest and most beautiful Polish towns. Located at the foot of the SudetyMountains, over the Odra River, cut by its many tributaries and channels, it is a unique town comprising 12 islands with 112 bridges. It is the fourth biggest town in Poland, with ca 650 thousand citizens. Today it is a major centre of industry, trade, culture, university education, science and one of economically strongest towns in Poland.

Wrocław is situated in the very centre of Europe and is the capital of one of the large regions in the European Union, aspiring to perform the role of a strong, universal metropolis, with unquestionable strong international position.

Development of the town is very dynamic - it is being selected as a place of investment by leading world companies. In 2005 alone, investments in Wrocław amounting to over 1 billion € were declared by such prominent companies as Siemens, LG Phillips, Volvo, Hewlett Packard, Whirlpool, Fagor, Wabco and 3M.

Without any doubt LG Phillips is going to be the largest investor, which at Kobierzyce near Wrocław is investing as much as 800 million €, thus accounting for the largest investment in Poland's history following the World War II. Wrocław is an open and modern town, offering excellent conditions for work - owing to high development dynamics and for leisure - owing to the creation of a wide variety of leisure forms, thus being an attractive town both for investors and tourists. Wrocław is a town of young people, vibrant with life, a place, which is constantly changing and is a good place for living. It is a beautifully located place, where the old and modern architecture composes with abundance of green areas.

Wrocław is the greenest town in Poland - with 25 m2 of greenery per one inhabitant. In the centre of the town the 18th c. Park Szczytnicki is situated, with over 370 species of trees and bushes and an original Japanese Garden, designed and maintained in accordance with the Japanese gardening art. Also the Botanical Garden is a magnificent place to visit, with its beautiful flowers exhibition, orangery, rock garden and the largest in Poland cactuses garden.

Wrocław has also a good tourist base with large forest areas, tourist routes on the foreland of the Sudety and Karkonosze Mountains and many tourist accommodation options.
